While many people will participate in a retreat to escape their everyday lives, quilting retreats are designed to allow quilters to escape all the distractions that may be keeping them from working on their favorite project. These quilting retreats also allow quilters from all over to gather in one place to share tips, tricks and secret methods to creating some of the most beautiful quilts seen in one place.
While most quilting retreats are aimed towards the women, who comprise the vast majority of the quilting population, men are accepted at most retreat centers. While they may feel out of place in a co-ed format, the discussion of quilting will quickly diminish any misgivings.
Retreats are meant to help attendee focus on the issue at hand. Whether it is a religious retreat or one for different type of craft bringing a group of like-minded individuals together under one roof helps their exchange of ideas. To help teach newer quilters some of the basics and offer tips and tricks on how to make some established techniques work better on varied circumstances are the main purposes of quilting retreats.
Where Quilters Go In Search Of Solitude
Many retreats are set up to enable quilters to work alone, but facilities are also available for working as a group. Most rooms have larger tables to enable work on quilts to be done as well as additional quilting tables set up in common rooms for the group efforts. Many quilting retreats also have some of the newer quilting machines available during the retreat so attendees do not have to drag their machines with them.
Having the machines available at quilting retreats also lets quilters know how they work and may entice them to buy a newer one. They can also learn to use a machine if they have spent their entire quilting life sewing by hand. Many of the other notions used in quilting will also be on display and available for purchase for those who decide to try new things while attending quilting retreats.
For many attendees, quilting retreats is a time to gather with others who share in their passion with the distractions of daily life. They can indulge themselves in quilting and everything that goes with it while working on their latest project of gather instruction and ideas for the next major endeavor. It is a chance to be themselves in the quilting world.
